I was irritated this morning because my commute to work took an hour and a half - as I got closer to my office, traffic was backed up in all directions trying to turn into our office park, and it was one of those situations where I just sat in my car and watched as the traffic light in front of me turned from green to red over and over, while no one moved.Turns out a big sink hole had opened up near the major intersection where several large companies, including mine, are located. They had the road blocked off and had to detour traffic through a couple of parking lots.
As the day wore on, apparently the sink hole kept growing, swallowing up more of the road and damaging more water mains and underground pipes. They shut off the water to many of our buildings (which required an installation of Porta Potties in the parking lot) and turned off the A/C. Eventually most of the companies in the area started sending home their non-critical employees, and many of my colleagues started heading to other campuses to work remotely.
I took advantage of the business slow-down to pack up my office, as it is being relocated tomorrow, then headed home around 2:30. I had no interest in walking outside to a Porta Potty every 30 minutes, which would be unavoidable thanks to my poor pregnancy-stricken bladder.
It will be interesting to see how much progress the repair crews make overnight and whether I'll have any problems getting to my office tomorrow!
