Girls weekend 1 & 2

Jason's been out of town for the last week on a whirlwind trip to North Carolina, Chicago and Iowa, so Isabelle and I have been left to our own devices.

As mentioned in a previous post, she got sick the day Jason left - and after three days of a fever and terrible cough, I took her to the doctor Friday. Luckily it was not strep throat and had not spread to her ears; and after checking Isabelle's oxygen levels, our pediatrician deemed it to be viral and said to watch her fever and breathing closely over the weekend.

Friday night was not much fun because Isabelle tried eating some dinner for the first time in days, and her stomach couldn't handle the food - she puked in her sleep and rolled in it, so when I went to check on her before going to bed, I found her body and bedding covered in vomit. I had to wake her up, throw her in the tub and rebathe her, strip her bedding and throw it in the washer, and make up her bed with clean sheets. Sigh.

The good news is, she didn't get sick again - and after sleeping late in the morning, she woke up with a normal temperature and seemed more like her perky self. We started our day by baking some cupcakes, shown here (Isabelle was in charge of pouring the ingredients in the bowl, and adding the sprinkles):

Both of us were stir-crazy after being trapped in the house much of Thursday and Friday, so in the early afternoon I took her to an outdoor Halloween carnival at a local elementary school. I was amazed at the size of the carnival - people were literally parking 1/2-mile away and walking there! Isabelle had the time of her life - we played games and won prizes, decorated a pumpkin, shared some Kona shaved ice, and rode the carousel a couple of times.

Sunday was a little more low-key; we watched movies and played games at the house in the morning, then headed to the park for a couple of hours in the afternoon. Here you can see Isabelle pretending to be a "cowboy," at least her version of what a cowboy must be. She stuck a ruler in her underwear and told me it was a sword. I'm not sure why she stuck the zhu zhu pet in her underwear, too, all I know is she was running around the house yelling "Yee haw!"

Monday was back to business as usual. After a busy day at work I picked Isabelle up at daycare and learned that not only had she been a busy little bee all day, but she hadn't napped. So she actually fell asleep in the backseat during the 10-minute drive home. She was out cold, so I laid her on the couch and let her sleep for a little while - she slept so hard, she didn't even flinch when I started chopping carrots and onions for dinner, and turned on the garbage disposal!

Needless to say, this photo demonstrates just how tired I feel after a very busy week as a single mom. Luckily I have another girls weekend starting Thursday, but this one involves grown-ups! I'm taking a red-eye to Baltimore Wednesday night for our annual girls trip... which means I'll get to see Jason for less than 24 hours and then I'm jumping on a plane while he watches Isabelle for three days...

The zhu zhu pet must have been her horse! Every cowboy has to have a horse, right? Haha :)
