Office before-and-after

When I moved over to our corporate office in October, I was upgraded from a cubicle to a real office with a door and a window! While I was very appreciative of the office, my enthusiasm was dampened when I realized that the only furniture that the Facilities folks had scrounged up for me was a tiny, banged up desk that was barely big enough to fit my computer and phone. It had two broken drawers (one of which contained some moldy food) and the lack of work space was often a problem - I had no room to proofread and edit papers without putting my wireless keyboard on the floor, and if I wanted to file papers I had to sit on the floor and spread out. To make matters worse, I had zero storage - no file cabinet, book case, etc.

So I told myself that I was lucky to have an office with lots of natural light, left all my belongings in boxes stacked against the wall, and patiently waited for some better used furniture. This is the "before" photo:

I rejoiced last week when one of our Facilities managers contacted me and said they'd found some used modular furniture that they could install, along with a used file cabinet. I worked from home one day last week while everything was installed - and was happy as a clam when I arrived to work the next day to see my newly furnished office. I spent a good chunk of that day unpacking, and now get to work here every day:

Big improvement! I could still use some more storage space, but I'm only in this office until spring, when I will allegedly move (for the third time since joining the organization) into my permanent office upstairs, which is currently being renovated...

Hot smokes! What a view. I like it. You do need more table space. Spreading out is a must!
