The seven of us went to a large bar in Cleveland on Saturday night called The Boneyard and saw a cover band called 1988 who played "big hair band" classics by Poison, Skid Row, and Motley Crue. This was just one of many activities during Girls Weekend 2010, aka seven girls converging on a house in Cleveland for three nights of fun!
I suppose I should back up a bit... my girlfriends and I, including friends from high school, college, and the post-college years, try to get together at least annually because we're now spread across the country. We've met up in San Diego and Chicago, and this year planned a Cleveland trip because Alison, one of my college roommates, lives there (free lodging!).
Friday started out with a trip to Cleveland's year-round, indoor farmer's market where we were impressed by all the culinary delights. I was surprised to see pasties in one of the cases - and even though their pasties looked a little more like empanadas than the U.P. version I'm used to, they provided an accurate history on the origin of pasties (food brought over to the U.S. by Cornish miners).
Anyhoo... that evening we had drinks, dinner and dessert at a restaurant called The Chocolate Bar, where - you guessed it - all of the menu items were in some way inspired by chocolate. The food was mediocre, but we weren't that surprised considering the first words out of the waiter's mouth were, "We're known for our martinis and dessert."
Saturday we all piled into Michelle's mini-van and headed to the local outlet mall, where we successfully divided and conquered. I walked away with a new pair of shoes and two very cheap, casual shirts that I wish I would have bought more of because the sleeves are actually long enough to cover my orangutan arms!
And Saturday night, before attending our ear-splitting rock concert (where the people-watching was awesome, by the way), we dined at B-spot - a gourmet burger joint owned by celebrity chef Michael Symon (I trust my foodie friends who said he's famous). I had the best burger I've eaten in my life: called the Lola burger, it's an artery-clogging combination of a burger topped by a fried egg, bacon, cheddar cheese, pickled onions, and mayo.
All in all it was a super fun and much needed weekend!

I'm laughing at your description of your arms! Glad you found a keeper. Maybe you can buy them online? Next year, I'm back in the game:)anne
It was a much needed weekend spent with the greatest girlfriends! I think we might need to make this semi-annual;)
