Our daycare provider told us that Isabelle seems to really enjoy the simple craft projects that the kids sometimes participate in. They've helped her create some gifts for me that involved sponge paintbrushes, construction paper, and markers - smudgy little scribbles for the most part, of course, but still cute. The picture frame she "painted" for me for Valentine's Day is sitting next to my computer at work.
I want to encourage her creativity, especially because she gets bored so easily. At 15 months she's still a little young for most of the toddler arts and crafts supplies, but I found some fat washable markers that are non-toxic and thought we'd start there.
Jason is in Vancouver this weekend (more on his Olympic experience in a future post), and unfortunately it's raining here so Isabelle and I have been cooped up inside most of the day. I thought tonight would be the perfect opportunity to let her play with her new markers and get as messy as she wanted.
I spread out some garbage bags on the hardwood floor and covered them with a large white hospital blanket that we would have thrown out otherwise (during her recent trip to the urgent care center, the staff bundled Isabelle up in a blanket before we left because it was cold outside and she had to be stripped down to her diaper after puking all over herself).
She REALLY likes to color. I think she got more marker on herself than on the paper, but I just plopped her in the bathroom sink when she was done and washed the ink down the drain...

Wow. She has a pretty good grip on something for her age, doesn't she? She looks very into it. Super fun! Maybe Aunt Anne will have to bring her special crayons Libby and Reagan use.
How fun! I'm glad she enjoys coloring, it's good for her imagination. We color a lot with the kids at the hospital, kids of all ages. It's one of the main things that we can get any child interested in doing, no matter how they're feeling. Painting, coloring - anything that boosts their interaction and gets them using their minds is good.
Can't wait to do a little coloring with Iz in a few more weeks!!
Is she going to be a lefty?? What a sweetie pie....she is just talented like her Mom!!
In the top pic she resembles a baby picture of Bubbles.......(Gramma K.)
