It's been quite a month, and I'm about to take some much-needed time off.
My boss was out of town the first week of October and then again all of last week, and when he's gone I am usually busier than normal because people contact me for assistance when they can't get a hold of him. And to make matters stickier, this past Saturday we were holding a large community event called "wellness day" at one of our clinics.
The event planning was a full-time job in and of itself - the event featured health seminars from four of our physicians, free health screenings, tables staffed by people from our health system and from the community offering information about Medicare plans, home health care, heart care, etc.; and a panel of primary care physicians who met and visited with potential patients who are looking for a new doctor.
The event was very successful, but it took hundreds of hours of planning (not to mention we had to work a full day on Saturday!). And the same week I was so tied up at work, Isabelle was quite sick and Jason was out of town for two days. LUCKILY Jason's mom was still visiting us last week, so she essentially turned into our full-time babysitter and helped take care of Isabelle since I was in no position to take any time off work.
Fortunately the work event is behind us now, and Isabelle is finally on antibiotics so I'm hopeful she'll be better soon - today is day 11 of a nasty cold that is in her chest and head, and at her doctor's appointment this morning I learned that she also has an ear infection. Poor kid, now I know why she's been so cranky!
I'm taking the next couple of days off - my vacation officially started at 4:30 today and I'm not returning to work until Tuesday! Tomorrow I'm flying to Chicago for a fun weekend with six of my girlfriends who are also traveling to Chicago from other parts of the country - no husbands, boyfriends, kids, or responsibilities!
I fly back to San Diego on Sunday but am taking Monday off, too, so I can spend a day with Isabelle and not have to juggle working from home at the same time.
