Despite the cold, rainy weather in Chicago this past weekend - AND despite waking up with a cold the same day I left for Chicago - my trip was a blast! Six of my girlfriends joined me for a fantastic weekend in the Windy City, and my only regret is that I kept forgetting to bring my camera with me!
I arrived at O'Hare at 2:00 on Thursday and took the train into downtown Chicago, where I only had a 10-minute walk to our hotel. After checking in I decided to walk around outside to familiarize myself with the area around us; even though it was raining I didn't want to waste a minute of my vacation so I bundled up in my winter coat, hat, scarf, gloves, and umbrella, and set out in the rain. I eventually decided to take a cab over to the Cheesecake Factory on Michigan Ave, and had a nice dinner (accompanied by my book). I got a piece of cheesecake to go and ate it back at the hotel while I watched Grey's Anatomy, then took a hot bath and went to bed early.
A solid night's sleep did me well because I woke up feeling much better Friday. After my friends Kim, Anne, and Cindy arrived we took a cab to Shedd Aquarium, where we stood in line for 25 minutes outside in the rain. Our aquarium experience took up most of the afternoon, and that evening we had a very nice dinner at Rosebud on Rush, an italian restaurant about a block away from Michigan Ave. Dinner was followed by some hot tea at Borders and a brisk walk back to the hotel.
On Saturday, the rest of my friends - Alison, Jessica, and Janine - arrived and we found a tapas restaurant near the hotel for lunch. After another great meal we spent our afternoon at the Museum of Science and Industry, then spent a couple hours shopping. We had an early dinner at the Grand Lux Cafe, followed by a drink at a weird goth bar and then dessert in our pajamas!
The trip provided exactly what I'd been looking for - some nice quality girl time and a break away from the real world for a couple of days. I came home to San Diego and spent my last vacation day playing with Isabelle, which basically means chasing her around the house while she tries to get into anything and everything!

Where did you stay in Chicago?? A really great restaurant is Tuscony on Taylor Ave. Glad you had a great time.
We stayed at the Springhill Suites in the River North area (on Dearborn near Wacker Drive and the river). I'll have to remember Tuscony for next time!
