Helmet update

I learned this morning that we’ve been approved for Isabelle’s D.O.C. Band treatment, and she’ll start wearing her “helmet” soon.

On Monday morning I need to take her for a short appointment where they’ll produce a 3-D image of her head, allowing them to construct the band specific to Isabelle. It takes about 10 days to create, and so her fitting will take place on Friday, May 1. She’ll wear the band home and will keep it on for 23 hours a day, for roughly two or two-and-a-half months (length of treatment will depend on her progress). We may need to take her back to Cranial Technologies for weekly appointments to monitor her progress and readjust the band.

Although I hate that she has to go through this, I’m glad we live in an area where the treatment is readily available – and we're lucky to have insurance that will cover the cost.

And at the end of her treatment, Isabelle’s little bald head will be beautifully shaped!

Has anyone given you any indication of how infants respond to having it on? Is it tight or is it like wearing a hat? I wonder if she'll think it's heavy.

Yeah I wonder how she'll react to the helmet. Now Isabelle and Auntie will both be 'healing' in June hehe. Wish I could be as cute as she'll be tho! lol

She will probably hate it the first day or two and then just give in to it. Not nearly the same thing, but when Jack had to have his hand bandaged for 14 days he quit caring about it after 2 days and even would help remind us when it had to be changed by the time the 2 weeks was ending!

I'm sure she'll be annoyed by it the first day or two, but I'm pretty confident that after a while she won't even notice it. And at 5-1/2 months she's still young enough that she can't try to remove it on her own.
