3 months old!

It's hard to believe, but Isabelle is three months old! This means I've only got two weeks of maternity leave left, but more on that subject later...she already seems like a completely different baby than the fragile newborn we brought home from the hospital in November.

Some of her developmental milestones and personality quirks include:

  • She coos and smiles a lot when she's happy
  • She's been trying really hard to laugh but just can't make the sound yet!
  • She started sleeping through the night at 9 weeks. Every once in a while she still wakes up hungry around 2:30, but she goes back to sleep quickly after having a bottle.
  • She bats at the toys hanging from her toy bar and has recently started grasping them
  • Her face lights up every morning when I go in her room to get her out of her crib

  • She hates being on her tummy, so she may start crawling later than some babies

  • Despite not being able to crawl, somehow she shimmies on her back during the night. The last few mornings, I've gone in her room to get her and she's slid all the way to the end of the crib with her feet sticking out of the bars.

  • When she's especially hungry, she fights me when I try and burp her. She yells, whips her head back and forth, and tries to throw herself off my shoulder. She gave me a fat lip two weeks ago when she knocked her hard little head against my mouth, and a tooth cut my lip.

  • She looooves having a bath at night.

  • She is super alert and barely sleeps during the day. She'll take a couple of 30-minute cat naps most days, but she quit taking long naps around 6 weeks old.

  • However, if there is a morning when I'm extraordinarily tired, I can sneak in a nap of my own by letting her fall asleep on my shoulder while I'm reclined on the couch. She'll sleep an hour or more if I hold her... but I don't want to make a habit of this!
