Surviving the first day of daycare

Isabelle started daycare yesterday, and we both lived to tell about it!

My first day back to work will be February 24th, but I decided to schedule Isabelle for a couple of 1/2-days at her new daycare prior to that date. I figured we should both get used to it in "baby steps" so I'm not completely useless my first day back at work.

Our daycare provider's name is Annie, and she operates a child care service out of her home. She has roughly 12 kids, and has additional licensed staff on-site full-time. Annie conveniently lives only two miles away from us, so she's nice and close!

I was a little concerned about how Isabelle would react to being left with strangers, because when my friends were in town last weekend, Isabelle had her first temper tantrum when I tried to shower one morning and left her to play with Kim and Anne. For the rest of the weekend, she had a little meltdown whenever she found herself alone with them. I told Annie about this behavior, and she assured me that it's natural and that Isabelle would probably cry when I left.

Sure enough, she started wailing as I was leaving. It was tough to walk away, but I know how important it is for Isabelle to spend time with people other than her parents - and we don't have a choice, since I have to work!

When I went to pick her up later in the day, Annie answered the door holding Isabelle - and she wasn't crying! Annie said she fussed for a while after I left, but once she calmed down she did well. Chelo, the other full-time staff person, told me that she "just loved" Isabelle and that she was a good baby. So I think once Isabelle starts attending regularly, she'll really like the change in environment.

I had a feeling Isabelle would't sleep while she was there, because it was noisy thanks to the 1o other kids running around, and she's not used to that kind of commotion. I was right; she fell asleep as soon as I put her in the car, and she crashed for almost an hour and a half!

Look how happy she was during her nap - I think she was relieved to be back in her own quiet house!

Awww...that is a seriously cute picture. She will learn to love going to "school." That's what we call it and in the morning Jack will go "cool, cool?"

I love that picture. She seems so content and happy!
I cried for every morning for a week when Avery started "school", and she didn't shed a tear. I'm sure that Isabelle will be a champ before long, and will be the daycare darling.
