Lots of fun despite lots of rain

It figures. The weather had been beautiful, in the 70s every day, for the last couple of weeks. And it was still sunny last Wednesday night when I picked Kim and Anne up from the airport and they marveled over the 68-degree temperature difference between Michigan and San Diego.

Then we woke up Thursday morning to gray skies and the weatherman calling for a "winter storm." By early afternoon the sky was black and the rain started falling in buckets. It hasn't stopped raining since

Unfortunately for the girls, the rain ruined many of our potential plans, such as visiting the Wild Animal Park and going hiking. We had to resort to finding fun indoor activities, which is hard because so many of San Diego's fun activities are based on our *perfect* year-round weather!

Thursday we attempted some shopping at the Carlsbad outlet mall, and were somewhat successful at dodging the rain until we ran for the car and got drenched (most of our malls here are outdoor malls). Friday we had a late lunch, and then went to a movie once Jason got home and could take over babysitting duties. And Saturday we did some more shopping, once again dashing from store to store in between rain showers, and then had a nice Italian dinner in downtown Encinitas that night. We ate outdoors but were protected from the cold rain thanks to a large awning and plenty of heat lamps.

From my perspective they were a relaxing, yet fun, couple of days. We sat around each morning drinking coffee, talking, and watching TV while it rained outside, but still got to get out of the house a little bit each day despite the uncooperative weather. And it was so great to hang out with girlfriends again!
