Settling in

As much as we’ve been able to after work this week, we’ve been checking things out in our new community and trying to get settled in. Monday night we toured L.A. Fitness, which is a pretty nice gym not very far from our house, and got a couple of 3-day trial passes. I’ll probably join; they’ve got a good number of cardio machines, a pretty large weights area, a really nice studio for group classes like aerobics and kickboxing, a spinning room with brand new bikes, and a heated saline (non-chlorine) pool. Not to mention, I’d get part of my membership subsidized through work.

Last night I went to the Encinitas library to sign up for a library card – good timing, since I just finished reading my last book. It’s a very cute library; I think it just opened this year, and it’s on a hill that overlooks the downtown area and the ocean.

Our next mission? To find the best grocery store! I hate grocery shopping, but we need to find the store that has good produce and decent meat without crazy prices. Some of the ultra-nice grocery stores here charge a small fortune for food, while the less expensive stores tend to be scary on the inside. I’ve seen numerous produce displays where the fruit is literally rotting in its crate. Hopefully we’ll find a store that strikes a balance…

Love the fact your work will pay for (part of) the gym membership!
