We're having a great time in Santa Monica so far. We arrived around 4:15 yesterday, and after checking into the hotel we walked a couple blocks to a pub where some of Jason's co-workers were hanging out. They all had to be back to the hotel before 7:00 for some sort of reception with the athletes and Player's Association, etc., so I picked up dinner to go from a nearby italian restaurant.
After dinner I sat outside on the fourth floor deck, which has an outdoor heated pool that overlooks the ocean. There were portable fire pits set up all around the balcony, so I read my book by the fire while sipping lemonade. Around 9:30 I headed back to the room and curled up in bed with my book.
Poor Jason had to be up by 5:45 this morning in order to get to the Los Angeles Coliseum for the day's activities, but I slept until about 8:15 and ordered room service. I was trying to be budget conscious so even thought I really wanted the $10 bowl of fresh mixed berries with my breakfast, I just ordered the banana and cashew french toast and a glass of milk. Imagine my surprise when the server showed up with my tray, and they gave me a big bowl of berries and whipped cream at no charge! It's the little things that make me happy :-)
It's about 10:30 now and still a bit cool outside, so I'm going to wait a little while and then head outside to the beach. I'll probably read and doze in the sun for a couple hours - with lots of sunscreen, of course...
