Wildfires!

I'd heard that the fire danger would be high this weekend - not only is it very dry here, but the temperature was supposed to rise and the Santa Ana winds are here. The Santa Anas are these warm winds that blow through Southern California; I remember them from this time last year, so I think they usually happen in the fall. Kind of like the "indian summer" that occurs throughout the rest of the country.

There must be a fire somewhere nearby because the sky is completely hazy with smoke, and the smell is so strong that my eyes were watering and my throat was burning when I was outside about an hour ago. The smoke is so thick that it's starting to block out the sun. I'm not sure how clearly the haze shows up in these pictures I took from my balcony, but to give you a reference the mountains in the background are usually green and quite visible.

Must be hard to put up with the smoke being bad enough for your eyes to water. Hopefully it won't last long. Funny how the weather was so similar here in the U.P. We had a third very dry summer with a very bad wild fire in Newberry that took weeks to get under control. We had no rain at all, then in the last few weeks we have had so much rain the lake is higher than I have seen it in three years. We have had temperatures in the low 60's here for the last 5 days which is very unusual for us.
