Apple Days

On Saturday we drove about 40 miles northeast to Julian, a small town known for its apple festival every fall. Julian is an old gold-mining town founded in the 1800s, and much of the old buildings in the downtown area have been preserved.

It was an absolutely beautiful fall day -
sunny and in the high 60s. We had lunch at the Julian Cafe, then poked around in some of the shops along Main Street. We visited the Julian cider mill for caramel apples and apple cider, and later stopped by the Julian Pie Company for fresh dutch apple pie. We ended the day by visiting the Julian Bookstore, where I bought two old hardcover Nathaniel Hawthorne books (The House of the Seven Gables and Twice-Told Tales).

Hey, the apple festival sounds like my kind of thing. I like the pictures of the old buildings in the town. The apple pie and homeade apple pie both sound great!!! Were they worth the trip???
