I know Christmas is
sometimes called the season of giving, but we've been given way too many bad
germs and I'm ready for it to be over! The plague descended upon the Masherah
household almost two weeks ago and we're still Cloroxing all household surfaces
and washing various blankets, pillowcases and garments in hot water.
The weekend before Christmas Olivia started getting sick, and she and I ended up in the doctor's office on Christmas Eve. Her diagnosis? Bronchiolitis. Poor baby needed a breathing treatment with Albuterol, and we had to continue giving her treatments with a mask and inhaler at home for the rest of the week. I ended up with a sinus infection which at least was manageable thanks to a daily cocktail of Tylenol and Halls (and since Friday, antiobiotics!).
To top things off, both girls came down with the stomach flu late Saturday night. Naturally Jason was at the gym Sunday morning when I walked into both girls' rooms to discover vomit coating everything in sight. They'd both been laying in it for hours, and I had to fill the bathtub several times in order to get them cleaned up - especially Isabelle's curly hair. So we spent all of Sunday doing laundry and taking care of our sick girls.
New Year's Eve morning dawned bright and early with another trip to the pediatrician's with Olivia - which almost didn't happen because my car wouldn't start. So after our doctor's appointment, where she was declared free of pneumonia, and ear infections, but confirmed to have the stomach flu on top of her bronchiolitis, we took an unexpected detour to drop off my car for repair.
Things were starting to look up until about 10 p.m. Monday, when out of nowhere Jason began feeling ill - and he rang in the New Year curled up around the toilet.
So far, I am still standing - and all of my fingers and toes are crossed that I fight off this latest stomach bug, especially because Jason is heading to Miami on Sunday, leaving me home alone with the girls.
I told Jason that technically, he got sick in 2012... so he doesn't need to think about 2013 being off to a bad start!
