Spring break 2011

The last week has been really busy - hence the lack of recent blog posts - due to our having visitors in town for spring break. My sister and her friend Sarah flew out here last week Friday morning and took the red-eye back to Michigan last night, after seven days of fun in the San Diego sun!

Initially it was going to be a girls-only week; Jason headed out of town for an extended work trip on the same day Jessi and Sarah arrived and wasn't planning to be back until late this evening, but his trip was unexpectedly cut short and he ended up coming back to San Diego on Tuesday.

I felt bad because he wasn't able to go to France as planned, but it was nice to have him home! Their first few days here they couldn't have ordered more perfect weather - we made it to the beach, to the San Diego Zoo Safari Park, to Old Town, and shopping between Friday and Monday. After I returned to work Tuesday, Jessi and Sarah went hiking on the Torrey Pines bluff that overlooks the ocean, snuck in a trip to the botanical gardens at Balboa Park, and even made it to a Padres game.

It seemed like they had only just arrived when it was time for them to head back to Michigan.... and Isabelle was the most sad, having lost two companions who gave her LOTS of attention during the last week. They even babysat for us on Thursday evening so Jason and I could have a proper date!

Isabelle sitting on my lap on the tram during our ride through Safari Park - she was SO excited to ride "the train" and see "baby animals." She kept shouting CHOO CHOO and "Next stop!!"

A view of the park from our tram - for a second you could almost believe we were in Africa. We saw lots of roaming animals including zebras, giraffes, and antelope.

Jessi came all the way from Michigan to see some very exotic animals in the petting zoo: deer

Every time Isabelle rides her bike she insists on picking dandelions (the ones that have turned white and cottony) and blowing away the seeds.
