Odds & Ends

If you've noticed that our blog posts haven't been happening as regularly lately, blame Jason.

I'm kidding.... sort of. He's had another heavy travel schedule during the last several weeks, and when I become a single mom during his work trips things like keeping my house cleaned and the blog updated become less of a priority.

This past week Jason was in Dallas Monday through Wednesday, which isn't so bad, but after his quick pit stop here in Encinitas he left for Hong Kong this morning--and won't be home until next week Wednesday. This will be an interesting experience because Hong Kong is 15 hours ahead of us - it's almost like he's traveling through time - and he had to buy special adapters in order for his electronics to (hopefully) work. So I have no idea if we'll get a chance to speak during the next five days!

Don't feel too badly for him, though. Despite a very long, 15 hour flight to China, he is flying business class. He's on a double-decker plane (I didn't even know there was such a thing) and not only does his seat turn into a bed, but he reported to me via text message that his seat includes a 20-inch TV screen.

My week has also been busy because I found out late Tuesday afternoon that my office was being relocated on Friday (today). So I had very little time to pack up my stuff during work days that were already stuffed with meetings and chock full of deadlines. I was a bit stressed out by the time the movers showed up today, but luckily everything was boxed and ready to go.

I've been waiting until it was official to announce my job news - I'm being promoted to a director of service line marketing for orthopedics, neurosciences and rehab services across the health system. I'll also have some secondary service lines to manage including organ transplantation. I've known for quite some time that the promotion was coming, but our entire 50-person department is in the midst of a restructuring so a lot of change has been happening incrementally. Part of my promotion means I'm moving to the corporate office - out of my cubicle and back into a real office with a door! - and I will have a new boss. I received my paperwork from HR today, literally as the movers were breathing down my neck waiting for me to vacate my cube, and so as of Monday I will officially be in my new position.

So lots of things going on at the moment - lots of change and transition at work for me, lots of travel for Jason (which does wear on him, despite the cool places he gets to go), and Isabelle about to officially enter the Terrible Twos next month!

All the more reason I am beyond excited to fly to Cleveland in two weeks to meet up with several of my girlfriends for "Girls Weekend 2010!"
