I first started wearing glasses when I was eight years old, and started enjoying the freedom of contact lenses at age 16. I'm going to be 32 next month, which means I've been living with impaired vision for 24 years - and I'm tired of it!
My contact lenses are no longer as comfortable as they once were, and I often have to put my glasses on soon after getting home from work - I think part of it is due to the amount of time I spend staring at a computer screen every day (my eyes get dry). But I hate the feeling of glasses on my face, and I have to be careful around Isabelle because she thinks it's funny to yank them off my face (which has led to more than one frame adjustment).
But soon, very soon, I will be free of glasses and contact lenses.... because this morning I scheduled my LASIK procedure for Friday, November 12! I had a consultation with our laser vision center director, who confirmed that I am a "perfect" candidate due to a variety of factors including my prescription, the topographical mapping of my eye, and my adequate corneal thickness.
I've been contributing pre-tax dollars to my flexible spending account all year, as has Jason - and that, combined with my Scripps employee discount, will allow me to make a sizeable down payment and not owe too much after the fact.
I can hardly wait for November 12!
