Crib recall

Earlier this week, the Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a massive recall of cribs--and it turns out Isabelle's crib is on the list of recalls.

We bought her what we thought was a Graco crib. It is convertible, meaning it can be changed into a toddler bed, and it has a drop-side which means the crib rails lower on one side. It turns out our crib was manufactured in China by a company called LaJobi, and sold under the Graco brand. Who knew?

The recall was announced because there have been 99 reports of drop-side "incidents," ranging from the hardware breaking and the drop-side completely detaching. This can result in entrapment and suffocation, or falling from the crib.

We don't actually use our drop-side because Jason and I are both tall enough that we can lean over the edge of the crib and lay Isabelle down without having to lower the rails. However, given Isabelle's sudden new obsession with climbing, I am afraid that she will soon try and climb out of her crib - and the force with which she's pressing on the drop-side will cause it to detach.

The company is issuing a free hardware retrofit kit that will immobilize the drop side. But of course, it will take 2-3 weeks for it to arrive!
