My friend Kim and her sister Melissa decided they needed a California vacation so they flew out last week Wednesday and stayed with us until Sunday.
I'd used up my remaining vacation time during my trip to the U.P. earlier this month, but they were very self-sufficient and entertained themselves while I was at work (with the aid of a rental car and a GPS with a British navigator). They took a day trip to the zoo, did some shopping, went kayaking, and spent some quality time in the sunshine relaxing by the community pool.
Friday night the three of us went to the movies and saw "500 Days of Summer." Great movie, if you haven't seen it. On Saturday we spent a couple hours at the outlet mall where we found some great deals at the Banana Republic and BCBG factory stores! We ended the evening with a nice dinner at an italian restaurant in downtown Encinitas.
And now the countdown begins for my next trip - six of my girlfriends and I are getting together for a girls-only weekend in Chicago the weekend of October 23!

Did you not go to the Spicy Pickle because I wasn't with you?
There isn't a Spicy Pickle less than 20 miles from my place - but we did go to Submarina!
