Tuckered out

Every once in a while when Isabelle is extraordinarily overtired and being fed before a nap, she'll spit the bottle out of her mouth, slap it away with both hands, and then fight me like a wildcat if I try to feed her again. This is a sure sign that she needs to be plopped into her crib and left to fall asleep on her own. Usually the "falling asleep" part involves her crying for a few minutes while somersaulting around her crib in an effort to prove to me that she's not tired. But then she usually crashes - and sometimes falls asleep mid-backflip, as pictured when she wore herself out this afternoon. She's actually sleeping here, with one arm clutching her bumper pad and her foot resting on a crib rail:

Note: we, like most new parents these days, were warned that crib bumper pads and blankets in the crib are a big no-no. However, when she was 5-1/2 months old we bought a bumper pad out of necessity; she was moving around so much in her sleep that she'd wake up with both legs, or an arm and a leg, sticking out of the slots. She'd wake up frustrated in the middle of the night because she'd be stuck in that position, unable to extract her limbs. Since getting the bumper pad she's no longer getting tangled in the bars. We plan to remove it as soon as she starts pulling herself up.

OK, I have to say this - in that picture she looks like she needs the helmet because of her antics in the crib, not because she is wearing it to shape her head!!!!

I have to agree with both comments!I'm sitting with tears in my eyes from laughing so hard at this picture! When she graduates high school, you must share this picture with everyone at her open house!
