What are your middle names?
My middle name is Marie, and Jason's is Andrew.
How long have you been together?
Our three-year wedding anniversary is June 3, and we've been together for almost 6 years.
How long did you know each other before you started dating?
After we met, we went on our first date a week later - although it almost felt like a second date because the night we met (at a bar) we talked for several hours.
Who asked whom out?
He asked me for my phone number the night we met, after walking me to my car; before I gave it to him, I tested him on whether he remembered my name or not (lucky for him, he did). He called me two days later and asked me out. Apparently one of his friends told him he should wait at least four days before calling me... and again, he's lucky he didn't listen to that advice!
How old are each of you?
I'm 30, he's 31.
Whose siblings do you see the most?
Jason doesn't have siblings, so I win - we see my brother and sister a couple times a year.
Jason doesn't have siblings, so I win - we see my brother and sister a couple times a year.
Which situation is the hardest on you as a couple?
The hardest situation is actually in the past; we dated long distance (6 hours apart) for almost two years while he was in grad school, seeing each other about one weekend a month. That's tough. A couple that can weather a long-distance relationship can survive almost anything. I think for most couples the difficulties are financial, but we're no longer struggling. We make just enough that we don't live completely paycheck-to-paycheck, and we've been committed to paying down our combined debt and socking money in savings over the last 3 years.
Did you go to the same school?
No. I went to Westwood High School in Ishpeming and Grand Valley State University in Grand Rapids. He attended Mona Shores High School in Muskegon, as well as Muskegon Community College, Michigan State University, and Indiana University.
Are you from the same home town?
Nope. I'm a Yooper and he's a Troll. It's amazing that we're so compatible.
Who is smarter?
It's pretty much split down the middle, as one of us is right-brained and the other is left-brained. Jason is better at "numbers" and I'm better at "words." Even though we both work in marketing, our jobs couldn't be any more different; he excels at the finance, planning, and budgeting side of things, whereas I'm good at the stuff that requires creativity and strong writing skills.
Who is the most sensitive?
Definitely me, which is fine. I wouldn't want to be married to an overly-sensitive man.
Where do you eat out most as a couple?
It depends. Pre-baby we ate out for one decent meal each week on our date night, and we tended to favor italian restaurants. Now we get a lot more take-out because it's easier to eat at home than bring Isabelle to a restaurant. If we do bring her, we definitely go to a family-friendly, casual establishment. There's a BBQ restaurant near our house that we both like a lot.
Where is the furthest you two have traveled together as a couple?
I wish I could say overseas, but we haven't traveled out of the country together yet. When we were still living in Michigan we honeymooned in San Francisco, which was far away. Now it's only a 90-minute flight to San Fran and going back to Michigan is a lengthy trip! We do plan to go to Italy together.
Who has the craziest exes?
Jason, hands down. I dated a few oddballs, but no crazies.
Who has the worst temper?
Hmm. Hmmmmmmmmmmm. This is a really good question. Neither of us has a true bad temper, but I guess I'm more likely to start sputtering and swearing when I'm super frustrated about something, like work.
Who does the cooking?
We try and split kitchen duties 50-50. Neither of us loves to cook.
Who is the neat-freak?
Me. It's not that I clean obsessively, because I don't have the time nor the energy, but I like things to be picked up and neat. I'm the one who keeps the majority of the house clean, including vacuuming, dusting, and cleaning the bathrooms and kitchen. The funny thing is, I could care less if I never made the bed again, but Jason hates it when the bed is unmade. And I hate the fact that a trail of crumbs seems to follow him everywhere he goes. We both hate unloading the dishwasher.
Who is more stubborn?
I would say he is more stubborn and he would say I am more stubborn. But he's definitely more stubborn.
Who hogs the bed?
Me again. I fling my limbs all over in my sleep, which is funny because Isabelle does the same thing. I've punched him, kicked him, and elbowed him in my sleep many times.
Who wakes up earlier?
We both hate mornings! I usually get up earlier just because it takes me longer to get ready.
Where was your first date?
Our first date was in Grand Rapids. We went to Charley's Crab for dinner, then to Dr. Grin's comedy club, then hung out at Crush and had a few drinks. Afterward, when he dropped me off at home, we sat on my couch and talked for a few hours.
Who is more jealous?
Neither of us, because we don't have reasons to be jealous.
How long did it take to get serious?
Not long at all. We knew pretty early on that it was "right." There were people who told me "I couldn't know for sure" because it was too early, but I knew. So did he. We got engaged after 18 months of dating.
Who eats more?
Jason does. We both snack frequently throughout the day, but he eats much larger helpings at dinnertime and he drinks diet pop all day long, which I don't do.
Who does the laundry?
Jason did laundry for the both of us when we lived in our old apartment; that's because our washer and dryer were out on the balcony where lots of spiders lived, and because he's a good husband he didn't make me face my phobia every time my clothes needed washing. Now our washer and dryer are in a much safer place, so I probably do more because I take care of Isabelle's dirty clothes, bibs, burb rags, etc.
Who's better with the computer?
Jason is. I'm fairly savvy with "regular" computer stuff, but I couldn't build a computer like he has in the past.

He took you to Charlie's for dinner? Nice. I didn't know that. It was fun to read this!

I love this. I feel like I knew a lot (like meeting at the BOB), but I love feeling like I get to know you a little better!
