We had our third ultrasound this morning, and saw what the baby looks like at 31 weeks. Unfortunately s/he wasn't being very cooperative; the baby is actually breech right now, and the ultrasound tech had a hard time getting images of the parts she needed to measure. Eventually she was able to get all the appropriate measurements, but no matter how hard we tried the baby wouldn't show its face! It had one foot thrown up by its head, so every shot showed the bottom of the baby's foot covering the top half of it's head, with its little nose and mouth peeking out. So we got a very close-up view of its toes!
According to our ultrasound tech the baby already has some hair on its head, and its weight and size are slightly below the 50th percentile - which means our baby is perfectly average. Right now it weights about 3 pounds, 10 ounces.
Since I still have nine weeks to go there is plenty of time for the baby to turn on its own, so it's no longer breech. But the tech said my obstetrician may want me to start coming in for regular ultrasounds during the weeks approaching my due date to monitor its position - because if it doesn't turn, they'll most likely have to do a C-section.
I'm pretty optimistic that it will turn; he or she has proven to be quite the little acrobat and it sure feels like it's doing frequent somersaults in there!
