Spiders!

Anyone who knows me well knows that I DETEST spiders - and due to a traumatic childhood experience, I'm not exaggerating when I say I have a phobia. That's why my number one wish for our new home, which we're moving into next Friday, will have (a lot) less spiders.

I'm not sure that I could go so far as to say we have an infestation, but as soon as winter passes and the weather starts to warm up, killing spiders is a daily occurrence in our apartment. Or to be more specific, killing spiders becomes a daily occurrence for Jason (I trap the spiders underneath an extra-large glass and then wait for him to come home and kill them).

For some reason they congregate in my bathroom - at least three times a week I find a spider in my shower when I wake up in the morning. This is not the best way to start my day. I'm not sure if they're coming up through the drain??

I've chalked it up to the fact that we live in southern California, and due to the climate it's something we have to deal with. But interestingly, I went to an apartment-review website to leave a scathing review of our apartment community, and found that numerous tenants in our complex had posted messages about the unusual number of spiders in their homes! So I'm optimistic that maybe, just maybe, the eight-legged nightmares are attracted to our particular apartment complex for some reason...

OMG I thought of you the other day cuz I was out at Trout Lake and saw the BIGGESTTT spider ever!!! ...it was so big that it freaked me out. I was afraid to run by it cuz I thought it would jump out at me lol. it gave me shivers - no doubt you would've died of a heart attack.

Do you watch the spiders under the glass until Ross comes home? They could move the glass...

I found one in my shower the other day. I squashed him with my flip flop. Callie then ate his remains. Yuck.

Tania I have the same phobia! We lived in old houses next to open fields, with lots of spiders. I remember covering a spider with a glass mason jar so my mother could kill it when she arrived home from work. A couple of years ago I was screaming in our upstairs bedroom "Greg, theres a spider!" and my husband came running though the house faster then I have ever seen him move. He thought I said "theres a fire in the house" After he killed the spider I though it was pretty funny, him not so much. It gets better. When you are a mom you have to be brave and kill the darn things to save the kids! I wish you less spiders in you life...

The spiders aren't the size of tarantulas or anything, and when you think about the size and weight of a heavy glass compared to the near weightless body of a spider, there's no way they can move the glass. Which is good - because I trap them and then run away and hide :-)

p.s. - Patti, it's nice to hear other people say they have the same phobia! Makes me feel less crazy, ha ha.

I hope you new place has less spiders too. I did not really understand this phobia myself until we moved away and had to deal with cockroaches......then I understood.....they gave me the creeps and you never knew when they were going to pop out of something or when they would pop out of somewhere.....I could never live with them again....

I was in Target yesterday and they have these outlet plug-ins for spiders (in the hardware department). It transmits a very high pitch sound(that we can't hear) but it's supposed to keep them away. I detest spiders as well and was looking into getting some for the house. We had spiders everywhere last year!!!
