Baby update

I had an appointment with the nurse practitioner from my obstetrician's office two weeks ago, and she sent me down to the lab for something called an AFP screening. I don't know exactly how the test works, but I believe based on certain proteins and hormone levels in the mother's blood, they can screen for Down's Syndrome and birth defects like spina bifida.

I talked to the nurse from my doctor's office this afternoon, and she said the entire panel came back negative. That's great news! The results mean that it is unlikely the baby will be born with any of the problems that the AFP panel can detect...

I see you are reading The Way the Crow Flies. I hope you like it. I loved it. One of my co-workers is just finishing it and we sound like book nerds because we talk about the book every morning.
