It turns out our tour was booked on the same day that La Jolla Kayak was holding a benefit for people who lost their home in last fall's wildfires, so there were hundreds of people booked for free kayak rentals and they ran out of kayaks. We hung out on the beach for over an hour waiting for our two-person kayaks to arrive, which wasn't so bad because it was absolutely beautiful outside.
The tour itself was a lot of fun - they taught us how to paddle correctly and how to get in and out of the kayaks, as well as how to get back in if the kayak tipped while we were out in the ocean. We were in a group with about a dozen other people, and our guides paddled us through the cove. We saw leopard sharks (which are harmless), dozens of sea lions sunning themselves on the cliffs, and got to paddle through a sea cave.
The only catch was that there were so many kayaks in the water -probably hundreds - that the tour took much longer than normal because each group had to take turns paddling through the sea cave. When it was all said and done, our 1.5-our excursion took almost four hours, and despite our sunscreen we fried after being outside on the water for that long.
So when we finally got home from our free meal at almost 5:00, we spent the rest of the night slathering on aloe and just sitting around and talking. Oh, and we finally got to enjoy our desserts from the night before!

I dropped the girls off at the aiport early this morning (Sunday), and I'm going to run my errands while it's still early so that I'm not in the hot sun for very long. Then I'm probably going to nap - and not leave the house again until I go to work tomorrow morning :-)
Jason is still out of town - his guys trip ended this morning, and he is currently flying from Denver to New York City to meet up with some of his co-workers for meetings they have scheduled there. He is supposed to be home Wednesday night...

Wow! Four hours is a long time to be on the water in the hot sun but it sounds like it was fun!! I'm glad you guys had good weather and sounds like a fun-filled and busy weekend. I'm sure you're enjoying your quiet day to yourself. : )
Sounds like you had a wonderful time.
It's nice when your guests fly out early on Sunday, then you have the day to get back to normal:)
