A Weekend With the Girls

Anne and Kim came to visit for a long weekend, arriving last Wednesday night and leaving early Sunday morning. Although the weather turned cloudy and cold by the end of the trip, I was still able to send them home with sunburns - mission accomplished.

Thursday highlights:

  • Hiking the Iron Mountain trail in Poway, and making it all the way to the top (we made it to the highest peak shown below)

  • Getting hour-long pedicures after the hike, which included minty scrubs, a clay foot mask, and a foot and calf massage

  • Going shopping at Fashion Valley mall, where Anne bought a push-button pepper grinder that Jason said looks like the detonation device for a bomb. I got a cute shirt from J.C. Penney for only $14.99, plus three shirts from Banana Republic thanks to the gift card I got for Christmas from Jason's mom.

  • Having margaritas and mexican food at Chevy's later that night

Friday highlights:

  • Shopping day two! We spent about four hours at the outlet mall in San Ysidro, at the Mexican border. Kim and I lucked out and each got a pair of new shoes dirt cheap, because the shoes were marked with the wrong sale price and the clerk had no choice but to sell them to us.

  • Dressing up and going to Little Italy for dinner, where we dined at Buon Appetito. Everyone had a good laugh because I thought the waiter said his name was "Matador" (it was actually Pedro). The restaurant was really loud and I couldn't hear!
  • After-dinner drinks and dessert at Extraordinary Desserts. See the photo of Bubby, Kim, and Anne pretending to be three-toed sloths (a long story that involves wine)!

Saturday highlights:

  • Visiting Coronado Island and walking through the Hotel del Coronado, which was built in the late 1800s.
  • Taking a walking tour of the Gaslamp Quarter downtown, and showing Kim and Anne Petco Park (the baseball stadium)
  • Dinner at Rubio's followed by yummy Blizzards from Dairy Queen

Sadly, Kim and Anne had to go back to Michigan on Sunday. I'll miss them!
