Conquering Iron Mountain

Yesterday's weather forecast called for a 70-degree weekend inland, so Jason and I decided to hike the Iron Mountain trail in Poway, the neighboring city just to the east. Here is a photo from the base of the mountain:

We started climbing around 10:45 this morning and made it to the top in about an hour. I'm not sure if that's a good time, but I was pretty proud of us considering it's a 2.8-mile hike uphill on very rocky terrain. The view from the top was phenomenal - here are shots overlooking the moutainous area to the east, and the city view to the west.

We were surprised at how many people we encountered on the trail. Throughout the duration of the hike, we must have passed at least 100 people coming in the opposite direction, not to mention the dozen or so that were picnicking at the peak once we arrived.

It was a great workout - I can't wait to do it again!

Wow! That's awesome! I'm not sure how Kim feels about it but I would love to do that in February!

Kim & Anne, I'd be more than happy to go hiking with you guys when you're here in February!

Also, if you're craving Mexican food while you're here, Jason and I found a GREAT Mexican restaurant near the beach in Encinitas last night! The food was sooo good, even for someone like me who doesn't like onions and tomatoes and stuff :-) And I heard the margaritas are the best in town, although I didn't partake last night...

I've never been on a real hike, so this will be great! Maybe we can hike and then reward ourselves with the spa idea?;-)

The Pictures are great. Looks like a great way to get some excerise. You won't have to worry about doing it again......sounds like all of us who want to visit will also want to do the hike.
