The evacuation order for our neighborhood was lifted late this afternoon, so Jason and I wasted no time returning to our apartment.
Surprisingly the smell of smoke in the air here is not that strong - definitely not as strong as the day the fires erupted and started moving in our direction.
We are very, very fortunate to have been spared, as dozens upon dozens of homes were lost in our suburb of Rancho Bernardo. Unfortunately the fires are still out of control in some areas, but they are moving much farther north of us.
Thanks, everyone, for all the phone calls, text messages, and emails asking about our safety. We really appreciate your concern.
I have never, ever been so happy to come home.

I'm so happy to hear that you are back home! What a scary experience. -- Cindy
SOOOOO glad to hear you're home.
U.P. is looking better!
I have been telling everyone that you got to go back to your apartment yesterday and how glad I am for the two of you that your place was spared. I have seen all the mess on the news and all the fires that are still out of control. Are your hours at work going to still stay so crazy.??? It has been so wet here in the good old U.P but I don't mind, better than what everyone out there is going through.
next time you have to lie to me... you know i worry too much about you girls
