I had a very full agenda on Saturday, that started with work and ended with fun!
For the last couple of months I've been partnering on behalf of my employer with the local chapter of the Alzheimer's Association to put on a free, half-day conference for people who care for a loved one with Alzheimer's. It turned out to be a great event - 200 people showed up and it was almost standing room only. But my day started at 4:00 a.m. due to the event set-up, and the event didn't conclude until almost 1 p.m.
At 1:00 I threw on flip-flops, filled my gas tank, grabbed Subway and Starbucks and hit the road for a trip to Palm Desert! Located about two hours northeast of San Diego, the trip involved a beautiful drive through both mountains and desert - I left the breezy coast, drove through parts of the mountains that had snow patches alongside the road, and ended up in 85-degree heat!
The reason for the trip was, my good friend Kim was in Palm Desert for a business conference and stayed through the weekend. Jason and I had a free night's stay coming to us from Marriott, so I booked a room at the Courtyard and hung out with her and her husband late Saturday afternoon and evening. It was exactly what I needed - some shopping in Palm Springs followed by a fantastic meal at a restaurant called Cork Tree (which I highly recommend if you're ever in Palm Desert).
When Kim and Jerry dropped me back off at my hotel around 10:30 I was running on fumes; I washed my face, went to bed, and slept until 10:00 the next morning!
Some photos of the beautiful scenery as I started descending into Palm Desert:
