Welcome to Philly

I flew to Philadelphia this morning, as I'll be attending the annual Society for Healthcare Strategy & Market Development conference the rest of this week. It turned out to be the worst flight of my life.

The last two hours were extremely turbulent, and just when I was thinking we were *thisclose* to landing, the captain came on and said we were in a holding pattern and wouldn't be able to land on time. So we circled the airport for almost an hour in the same rough winds - and I have never been so ill. I had the airplane "sick bag" opened on my lap and thought several times my breakfast was going to come back up. I didn't get sick, fortunately, but I can't say the same for a lot of people who were sitting near me!

Next, we found ourselves in a cab heading into downtown Philly at rush hour, in torrential rain, driven by a rude woman who probably just got her driver's license last week. Given the number of times she slammed on the brakes and almost rear-ended the car in front of us, I'm surprised we made it there in one piece!

I guess it could have been worse - a co-worker of mine was on a later flight, and her travel day ended up being 13 hours long. Not only did they experience the same turbulence, her plane was hit by lightning and they almost ran out of fuel while circling the airport. So they had to make an emergency landing in Baltimore.

Thankfully I'm now settled in my room, have had dinner courtesy of room service, and am drinking some tea and catching up on email. And planning to head to bed early!
