The littlest Masherah...who is actually quite big!

Olivia had her two-month check-up today, and our pediatrician pronounced her healthy and beautiful. She's 12 pounds, 11 ounces and 24 inches long - which puts her in the 92nd percentile for weight and the 96th percentile for height!

A friend of mine here in San Diego is due with her first child any day now, and she said her OB/GYN told her that in his experience babies who make it to 40 weeks in the womb are less fussy when they're born. I don't know if this is just an old wives tale or if it's grounded in any sort of science, but Olivia was 40 weeks at birth and she is such a calm, happy baby. She really only cries when she's hungry (which, granted, is often!). She loves snuggling when it's time to sleep, and when she's awake she loves stretching out on the floor to kick her legs and wave her arms.

Like her big sister, Olivia is an extremely alert baby - she already can spend almost an entire day awake with only a few short, 20- to 40-minute catnaps. I think eventually this will translate to good nighttime sleeping, but right now she's not sleeping during the day OR night - which means mom doesn't often have a chance to nap after a night of frequent feedings!

We know Olivia is capable of long stretches of sleep, because on a couple of occasions she's had a four or five hour nap during the night, but her patterns are still pretty inconsistent and many nights she's still up every 2 to 2-1/2 hours to eat. I'm crossing all of my fingers and toes that she is sleeping through the night by the time I go back to work in April!!
