Our second day in Maui may have been my favorite - we took a five-hour snorkeling tour on a boat called the Pride of Maui. Unfortunately I don't have pictures - we didn't have an underwater camera - but you can read more about the snorkeling and see some photos on their website.
We departed from Ma'alaea Harbor at 8:00 a.m. and during the 45 minutes it took to get to the Molokini Crater, we were served coffee and breakfast and fitted with our rash guards, masks, snorkels and flippers. Others rented snuba and scuba gear, but I was content to snorkel (and wasn't sure I should dive too deep since I'm pregnant!).
Molokini is a partially submerged volcanic crater, and from what I understand it's fairly unique in the world and is one of the world's top diving spots. The water around the crater is crystal clear, and we had 90 minutes to snorkel around and look at the amazing coral and marine life.
Following the first excursion, the boat crew served a BBQ lunch while we headed to our next snorkeling spot called Turtle Town. Here the coral wasn't so vivid, but there were lots of colorful fish and giant sea turtles!
It was a perfect morning and afternoon, and after we headed back to the hotel we set up some of the hotel lounge chairs next to the ocean and took naps in the sun.
After showering, we headed to Kihei for dinner at a latin-asian fusion restaurant called Cuatro. The food was SO good. We had their (self-proclaimed) world-famous ahi tuna nachos, which I can't describe but were amazing, followed by a latin-inspired pork dish (Jason) and an asian-marinated steak (me). Naturally we completed our dinner with dessert, which was surprisingly simple but delicious - fresh fruit and berries drizzled with caramel sauce, sugared macadamia nuts and homeade coconut ice cream.
I'm definitely going to try replicating the dessert at home!
