Destination: Maui

When Jason and I were in Michigan earlier this summer, we celebrated our five-year wedding anniversary. That night, he told me my gift was a trip in August, for just the two of us, but he wouldn't tell me where we were going.

He implied that this was a work trip that I would be tagging along on, which I was fine with - I used to travel with him on business trips fairly often before Isabelle was born, and while I usually had to occupy myself during the day while he worked, it was always nice to have the hotel room paid for (not to mention his airfare and his meals!).

Jason had arranged for my sister to fly out here and watch Isabelle for us, and she arrived Thursday so we got to spend a few days hanging out prior to leaving for vacation.

Yesterday was the big day - flying to parts unknown, childless - and it turns out, Jason booked us a trip to the Hawaiian island of Maui. AND, it's not a work trip!

We took a short flight up to Los Angeles where we caught our connection to Maui, and it turns out that because of Jason's "premier executive" status on United (because of his frequent business travel miles) we were upgraded to first class! And then when we arrived at the hotel, because of his elite status with Marriott we were upgraded to an ocean-view room!

Not too shabby... we finally checked into the hotel around 9 p.m. Hawaii time last night (we're three hours behind California, so six hours behind Eastern time) and we are taking a red-eye home Thursday night...
