Thankful for clear vision!

This was the week I've been waiting a long time for, because I had LASIK vision correction surgery on Tuesday! I'm now two days post-op and can see clear as a bell - for the first time in 24 years, when I wake up in the morning I can see everything around me including the alarm clock and any trip hazards surrounding our bed (somehow Isabelle's toys end up in every nook and cranny of our house)!

At the moment my eyes look terrible and probably will for a week - there are bloody arcs above my corneas that will eventually go away. And my vision is supposed to fluctuate for the first few days or even a few weeks - I have some occasional cloudiness and when I look at things up close it's a little fuzzy, but even those two symptoms have already improved during the last 48 hours. For the most part, everything looks crisp and sharp and pretty darn amazing!

Some people have side effects like burning, tearing, and dryness following LASIK that so far I've been fortunate to avoid - I think because I took the advice of my doctor and some friends who have had the procedure, and I slept immediately upon coming home. Apparently the worst of the side effects occur as soon as the anesthetic eye drops start to wear off following surgery, and so they recommend you go home and sleep through them. The doctor gave me two doses of a sleep aid; I took one in the car on the way home, then I slept for FIVE HOURS and woke up feeling great! For someone who works full-time during the day and is a mom the rest of her waking hours, that was some much needed sleep thanks to a miracle in pill form :-)

I had a follow-up exam early yesterday morning and according to the basic eye test where you have to read the tiny rows of letters on the wall, my vision was already 20/15 (better than 20/20)! I'll have a few more follow-up exams in a week, three months, and one year to make sure my eyes are healing correctly and that the vision correction was successful - but in the meantime my eyes feel great and I'm extremely happy with my decision!

Yeah! I am so glad to hear that everything went perfectly. So does everything look the same as when you had your contacts in...or is it an all new crispness?
