Last Saturday it was gorgeous outside, so we planned a family trip to the ocean. Luckily we only live three miles away from the beach, because Isabelle is still not a fan. She doesn't like the feeling of the wet sand under her toes, and she is afraid of the large waves. It took a lot of coaxing for her to finally play with her toys near the water, as pictured above. And eventually she got brave enough to stick her toes in the surf... until a large wave came rushing toward shore and literally knocked her off her feet. She got soaked from head to toe, and when she finally scrambled up (sputtering and spitting) she ran screaming for our blanket.
The next morning she had a much more enjoyable time splashing in the one-foot wading pool located in the community recreation area behind our condo - which was also much more enjoyable for us, because it's literally in our backyard and we didn't have to haul a carload of stuff, navigate the crowded beach, or come home covered in sand!
Yesterday we decided to take another trip to the zoo, hoping she'd enjoy the animal exhibits more now that she's older and can walk around. Last time she got a kick out of the petting zoo, so we figured if nothing else we could spend our entire morning in the children's zoo.
We tried some of the more "active" exhibits first, but she was afraid of the orangutans (you can get quite close to them because they will come right up to the glass and try to throw stuff at you). She quite enjoyed the meerkats and the flamingos, pictured below, but poor planning on my part caused my camera to die as soon as I snapped this picture!

When we got to the petting zoo, Isabelle gave the goats an angry look that seemed to imply they had somehow wronged her during her last visit, and she refused to pet them.
No big deal... our zoo experiments don't cost us anything because we're members!
