Janine & Curt's reception

My good friend Janine and her new husband Curt had a destination wedding in the Mayan Riviera (Mexico) in April, followed by a reception last Saturday, June 26, in Grand Rapids. Since Jason and I couldn't attend the wedding, we decided to plan our week-long vacation to Michigan around the reception.

The reception was a lot of fun. It was held at Johnson Park in a large pavilion that shaded everyone from the hot sun - it was a beautiful day, but quite warm and humid! We got to spend time with several friends including Anne, Kim, Jessica and Dave and their two boys, and Alison and Jeff.

Janine and Curt had probably the best set-up for kids I've seen at a reception. Outside of the pavilion's main dining area there was a large arts and crafts table that included lots and lots of bubbles. There was a separate food line for children that included kid-friendly foods like mac-n-cheese, and there was also a candy table for kids to make their own little grab bag of Tootsie Rolls, Hershey's Kisses, M&Ms, etc. We didn't bring Isabelle to the reception, but she sure would have enjoyed it!

After the reception we enjoyed some more adult company (and adult beverages) at The Woods, a bar in downtown Grand Rapids. I was not impressed with the service, or the lame $5 cover they charged us for the privilege of being served drinks by servers who didn't even know what beers they had on tap, but their raspberry martini loaded with fresh raspberries was to die for!

Congrats to Janine and Curt on their marriage and a fun, successful reception!

Me, Anne and Kim. We all got the memo to wear a patterned dress!
