Back to work...

Mondays are hard enough to get through during a normal work week, but they’re especially daunting after a week-long vacation where time starts blending together and you can’t remember what day it is.

Jason was fortunate to have two full weeks off over the holidays, due partly to his company’s annual holiday shut-down and partly due to some additional time off he had been saving. And my vacation started Christmas day and continued through last week.

My vacation wasn’t 100% the time away from work I’d been hoping for, due to a small crisis at work that required me to monitor my e-mail the first half of last week. But I officially stopped checking e-mail on New Year’s Eve so I could fully enjoy the rest of my time off.

My sister was in town Christmas Eve through New Year’s Eve and we spent a lot of time away from the house because the weather was so nice. We visited the Ruben H. Fleet Science Center, where we played with the interactive science exhibits and saw some IMAX films about life under the sea and in the Amazon rainforest; we went shopping and spent several hours reading at local cafes and bookstores; and we saw a couple of movies (Up in the Air and Avatar 3D, both excellent).

Our remaining long weekend was pretty quiet. Jason and I took turns sleeping in over the weekend, took some nice walks with Isabelle, and basically hung out watching old Friends re-runs.

Already looking forward to the next vacation!
