I heart Seattle bands

If, like Jason and me, you did a lot of your growing up in the 90s, you may share our affinity for many of the "Seattle bands" that ushered in a new era of alternative and "grunge" rock and essentially wiped out the remaining big hair bands from the 80s. Some people remember exactly where they were when JFK was assassinated or when the space shuttle Challenger exploded; I remember exactly where I was when I first heard "Smells Like Teen Spirit" by Nirvana and my musical taste changed forever. I instantly became a fan of bands like Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, and Alice in Chains.

One of those Seattle groups, Candlebox, had several hits in the early and mid-90s, including "Far Behind," "Cover Me," "You," and "Change." They broke up in the late 90s, but recently got back together and released a new album in 2008.

This past Saturday night, Jason and I went to the Candlebox concert at a small venue called Canes. Two other rock bands, Royal Bliss and Jet Black Stare, opened for them. All three bands put on a great show; it was fun feeling like I was transported back to 1994 as we sang along to a lot of the old Candlebox favorites.

I've been worried that we'll soon be too old to attend rock concerts. I told Jason that one good rule of thumb is, as long as the members of the band are older than we are, we probably won't be the oldest people in the crowd!

These pictures aren't very good because I took them with my cell phone camera, but I thought I'd share.
